A heavy,
high quality, faceted vase with a central core of purple surrounded by
a layer of amber, then encased in a shell of clear glass (sommerso)
from Luigi Mandruzzato.
The Mandruzzato company is still in business but was run by Gianfranco
(Luigi's son) from 1967 to 2000 and now owned by Alessandro (Luigi's
grandson). Similar vases are still made but they have a square
opening and a square foot. This vase has a round opening and a
pentagonal (5-sided) foot. Based on the label and the
shape, I believe this piece to be a much older vase made
by Luigi,
sometime from the late 50's to the mid-60's.
* Please note that the label
pictured was on an identical vase that is no longer available.
